When a school project leads Stella and her best friend Emily to experiment with voodoo dolls, they could never have predicted the consequences. Two of the hottest guys in school vie for Stella’s attentions, and Jamie, the coolest boy at Auld Bridge Hall School, soon becomes the perfect boyfriend.

However, as their love blossoms, her other admirer Seth is pulled into a downward spiral that puts his future and even his life at risk. Is it because of the voodoo dolls? Can she watch him fall to keep her perfect relationship with Jamie intact?

He flicked the headlights on. “We’d better get out of here. Rumour has it, this car park turns into a make out point late at night.” He winked at her.

“Really?” She cursed herself for blurting that out. Jamie must think that she was hopelessly naive.

“Well, that’s what I’ve heard.”

Another pair of headlights appeared from the entrance road.

Jamie laughed. “That's definitely our cue to leave!” He revved the engine, let down the handbrake, and pulled away carefully across the slippery glass of the clearing.

The other car entered the clearing at a reckless speed. It was a red Mazda MX5, fishtailing its way across the clearing driven by an attractive female, early to mid-thirties, with bobbed brunette hair and very red lipstick. Her companion was younger and attractive. Oh! The involuntary sound left her body. Seth, frozen in mid-laugh caught her eye in the brief moment the cars passed.

“Is that…” The words tumbled out before she could stop them.

“Is that what?” Jamie hunched over the steering wheel, obviously straining to see the ground in front of him.

There was no reason why she shouldn’t tell him she had seen Seth, but a part of her that didn’t want to.

“Nothing. I thought I saw a badger.”

“A badger? I never saw anything.” He peered into the twilight in the general direction in which she was looking.

Horrified he was slowing the car down to look for the fictional badger, she quickly chided him to move on.

A short time later, like a perfect gentleman, Jamie dropped Stella off at the door, even walking her to the threshold. He kissed her goodnight tenderly. Part of her thought, could this be it? Am I falling in love?

But even before she waved Jamie goodbye and shut the heavy wooden door behind her, part of her brain simply could not let go of the image of Seth with that woman. The way their eyes had locked for the briefest of moments was etched into her memory as clearly as the details of her date with Jamie. Why she was even bothered? If Seth wanted to run around town getting drunk and dating older ladies, then that was entirely his own concern.

Jamie had been attentive, thoughtful, and nice today. He had shared a place with her that was obviously important for him and his family. So why did her mind continually wander to Seth? Why had his brief gaze smouldered within her like a slow burning fuse? Seth Croft is an arrogant, rude well-known womaniser, and I have already wasted too much energy thinking about him already. She put on her earphones and fell asleep with the music playing to drown out the sound of her thoughts.
