The Oak King's Daughter is a Romance Fantasy. Dara, the Oak King's daughter, is in love with someone who her father deems unsuitable for her. Tinne, the court mage, is not worthy of his daughter in the eyes of the Oak King. Secrets swirl around the mysterious mage. Is he master of the events set in motion or merely a pawn?

Dara decides to risk everything, including her father’s wrath, to run away with her lover, they succeed and Dara surrenders herself to Tinne, only to discover that the mage is more than what he seems.

Excerpt:

“I have missed you so much,” Dara breathed fervently, her voice a throaty purr as Tinne’s fingers caressed her through her bodice.

“And I you, daughter of the Oak King,” Tinne whispered huskily as he pressed his chin on the top of Dara’s head.

“Come on.” Dara broke their embrace and dragged Tinne out into the melee of dancers.  Music filled the clearing, the leaves of the oaks and lesser trees trembled in time with it. Tinne led Dara through a pattern of intricate steps and she smiled in joy as they finished the pattern without a misstep.

The night wore on and Dara and Tinne danced every dance, careful to keep their distance from Ruis and the Oak King. The moon was ready to set when Dara and Tinne collapsed onto a bench in the shadows at the edge of the clearing. Dara leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed with happiness. This, she decided, was worth the risk of defying her father. Dara knew she had to seize the opportunity while she could, there would be little chance to follow her heart once the Oak King had her strengthen his kingship by offering her body to the man who represented the most advantageous alliance.

“Come away with me.” Tinne, as always, could read her thoughts and her moods.

“How could we? Where would we go that my father wouldn’t find us?” Dara spoke without raising her head from Tinne’s shoulder.

“Somewhere far removed from here. I can hide our trail for a while. I am a mage, you know.” Tinne touched the tip of Dara’s nose with his finger.

“Why couldn’t you be a mage with land and political clout?” Dara teased him.

“Ah, but then, I wouldn’t be who I am and you would dislike me as much as you dislike the candidates your father parades before you like so many stallions for you to choose from.” Tinne returned lightly.

“I don’t really get much of a choice, you know. Do you honestly think we could get away with it?” Dara mulled the idea over and found she liked it very much.

“We can leave this moment if you wish. I have horses at the ready and provisions as well.” Tinne kissed Dara lightly behind the ear.

“Are you that sure of me?” Dara demanded, ignoring the fire in her belly his lips awakened.

“Never,” he laughed, “but I hoped you would like the idea and, as always, I am ready to please you.”

Emily Pikkasso quickly drew me into this richly drawn fantasy romance about Dara, The Oak King's Daughter, who finds herself smitten by the new court mage, Tinne. rnrnIn a short amount of time, Ms. Pikkasso effortlessly sets the story tone and conflicts, and I was hooked all the way to the end. Mysterious and sensual, with a dark twist, The Oak King's Daughter is a lovely read, and my only complaint is... it went too fast! rnrnI'm definitely looking forward to more works from this author!rnrnS.Durham

What's a star one way or the other. I really think of this story as 3.5 stars, but I don't have that option.rnrnThe story is more of a vignette than a complete work. I feel like we're left hanging a little too much. There certainly is a laudable twist, which pleased me since Dara is not a very likeable character. She's a spoiled brat, but I would have liked to see her learn a lesson or two in the end.rnrnI think the story could have been longer to give the reader that feeling of completion I think a short story must have.rnrnOverall, however, the story is well-written and fast paced. The sex scenes are well done with a Victorian flavor in the language. Nice use of euphemisms.rn

Ms Pikkasso weaves a silken tale of magic and mayhem through her character's strong voices. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, satisfying romance, especially for thos who favor fantasy.

OUR READERS REVIEWS:

Elixir is fantasy at its best. Katie Caroll draws us into her world with ease, her well-polished writing style and flow holding us captive until the end. I especially liked the relationship between Katora and her sister Kylene, obviously drawn from real life. I can't wait to read the sequel.

GOODREADS READER REVIEW

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened this very charming and witty book to read on the skytrain. But I have to say it was kind of embarrassing. I couldn't stop giggling out loud at Maggie Lyon's humour. People kept looking at me, and I tried my hardest to hold in the laughter, but it was impossible. What a delightful story! What child wouldn't love this. It's a story for 6-10 year olds. It's a great book to read to your children when they're young or by themselves when they're older. If your child likes Geronimo Stilton, they'll fall in love with Dewie the little dragon and his friend Jones the toad. I hope Maggie Lyons will turn this into a series.

Joy Smith pulled me into the story on the very first pages. Fast moving, first I hated Victor, than I love him, than I hated until I loved him. And Marisol with her guarded heart had me hoping throughout that she'd open it again to love.

I loved her descriptions. They created such visuals, I felt I was traveling and discovering Colombia with Victor.

Ms. Smith writes believable, flawed characters that I wound up cheering and caring for on each page. I can't wait to read her next book. Goodreads Reader Review - Five Stars

"...murder, mystery and intrigue..plus did I mention our hero is a witch? Tex and his best friend Olivia are brilliant characters, really well written and I love tex's dad. Can't wait to read more about tex in the future! -Amazon Reader Review

I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the plot of this novel. From Annabelle putting her life in danger when running away from Boarding School where she has lived since the age of five to her tenacious pursuit in finding clues as to her origins.

She is rescued by Roland, who is too much of a gentleman not to help the intriguing young lady. I relished the suspense of the reciprocal desire between Roland and Belle which is thwarted by misunderstanding after misunderstanding and prevents them achieving mutual fulfilment. The reader yearns for the truth to replace the false pretences and for Roland and Belle to overcome each other's prejudices.
Rosemary Morris' major and minor characters spring to life. I sympathised with Annabelle and found Roland charming. Apart from this, Rosemary's great attention to every aspect of the Regency era is impressive.

False Pretences is a ripping read and I look forward to reading this author's next novel. - F.Way- Amazon Review
