Chapter One

“Wake up!”

His eyes opened wide, lashes beating fiercely against a new violent brightness. He tried to gauge his surroundings, searching his mind for a single clue, a memory that might lead him to how he came to be here. The unfamiliarity of both brought about panic. He stretched out his limbs, attempting to sit up. A searing pain sent a jolt to every body part as he recoiled like a defensive snake. Mind and body collapsed in unison as his limbs dangled down like paper lanterns. The image of a girl jumped before his streaming lids, and a faint smile caressed his mouth.

Time danced in and out around him; first a Quickstep then a Waltz. Images too dark for his mind flicked randomly. Then the nothingness came and took root in his soul, drenching him in emptiness with no sense of haste. This was the sloth, the torment.

The cycle would start over, and his mind slowly made sense of them now. Old memories confused with scenes of war and pain. People he loved hurting; people he loved attacking him! Had this happened? Was this how they had left him?

As his brain tricked him with unbearable ideas, tears pinched away at his eyes. The name, ‘Kiera’ escaped his lips.

“Open your eyesss; open your eyesss! I command you, sslave, open your eyesss!”

Joe’s eyes flickered in horror in reaction to the venomous tone.

“Ah, at lasst! Felt like joining uss did we?”

“Where…” Joe’s voice broke with the dryness. It felt like weeks since he last drank. “Where… where am I? What are you doing to me?” A beautiful face sprang into his thoughts, and the haze began to lift. “Where is Kiera? Where is she?” he feebly demanded. Joe tried to sit up, but the tight binds pulled him back down to the slab that held him fast.

“Googe,” a weak voice quivered from somewhere behind them. “He’s not ready. Fire up the machine and blast him again!”

From above, two metal stalks with blue neon lights at their ends swung rapidly toward him, wrapping around his forehead. They flashed their brightness directly into his vision. A small, rodent-like squeal of terror vibrated around his skull. Silence fell again as he started to slip into the nightmare, which for now was more welcoming than reality.

“The boy iss sstronger than we expected, Your Majessty.”

“Maybe,” her frail voice came from behind the curtain. “Or maybe his feelings for her are stronger than we realised. Interesting, we can use this to our advantage. Crank up the voltage on him. Let’s turn all that sickening love he has into beautiful heart-pumping hate!”

Joe’s unconscious body contorted in pure agony as the frail voice sighed with pleasure.

I live in the North-East of England, UK. From an early age I had a love of writing, mostly poetry and short stories.

I trained and graduated in Performing Arts. After time went by, I wanted to re-visit my real passion. So after my first son was born, I began writing Kiera’s Quest.

What a fantastic read....kept me gripped all the way through. The ending left me wanting more..... What is the witch queen up to and how will Keira and Zakk get back through the vortex now it's closed....roll on May for book 3....fab fab fab :)

Just finished Kristy Browns "Kiera's Quest Sacrifices" and couldnt put it down. It is absolutely fantastic I just wanted to jump right into the book amongst all the excitement and adventure. Every chapter was brilliant and kept me wanting more and more. I love all the characters and I cant wait for book 3 now.

Kristy Brown racks up the tension in this sequel to "Kiera's Quest: Awakenings". Every chapter ends on a cliffhanger so the reader never gets bored. On top of that, as with the first book, it's very funny and unpretentious.rnrnRead this book! But be warned, once you start it you'll have to finish it!
