According to family lore, Julie Davis is descended from a French pirate who settled in eastern North Carolina in the days of Blackbeard, and she still celebrates Talk Like a Pirate Day. She received a B.A. in radio-TV from the University of North Carolina and went on to pursue her M.F.A. in Theatre from the University of Texas at Austin. She has worked in television and theater management, including a stint at the National Endowment for the Arts. Several of her plays have been produced in Texas and North Carolina. When not writing, she enjoys reading, walking, movie-going, and volunteering as “Cricket the Clown” at Duke Cancer Patient Support. She and her husband live in Durham, North Carolina, where they cater to the needs of two rescue cats.
